FUN WITH GELLI PLATES
Gelli Plates are fun and easy to use. We experimented with some
gelli plates and acrylic paint, to see what results we could get.
Here are some of our favorite prints:
HOW TO USE:
Open the gel printing plate and remove the clear film.
Squeeze paint onto the gel printing plate. Spread the paint into a thin layer with a brayer.
You can print at this point, or place a stencil over the paint if you want a different look. We used stencils. When you are ready to print, place the paper on the painted surface. Gently rub the paper with your hands to transfer the paint.
Carefully pull the paper up from the printing plate to see your print.
In the first print, paint was applied to the gel plate, and a stencil was placed over the paint before printing.
In the second print, the colored background was created with paint and a brayer. More color was added with a brayer, over a stencil, for the lines and circles.
For the third print, paints were spread onto the plate, and a few prints were made, removing some of the color. Then a stencil was laid over the remaining paint on the plate, and more color was applied over it with a brayer, before printing.
We used Gelli Arts gel printing plates, Liquitex Basics and Golden acrylic paints (both heavy body and fluid acrylics), Strathmore Printmaking paper, and various stencils. All of these supplies are available here at the Artist Attic at Scrappy Craft.
We had so much fun making our prints! You can see some of our results on the wall in the Artist Attic classroom. If you haven't tried this easy and versatile printmaking method yet, we encourage you to try it. #scrappycraft

DIY SPRING STAMPING PROJECT
Did you know that you can create your own custom stamps for cards and mixed media art?
All it takes is an eraser or a carving block, and a craft knife or some carving tools.
It's fun and easy!
- Speedball Speedy-Carve TM block or eraser
- Exacto TM or other craft knife
- Stamp pad, block printing inks, or acrylic paints for printing
- Cardstock, canvas board, canvas, or other surface to stamp on
ALL OF THESE SUPPLIES AND MORE ARE AVAILABLE AT THE ARTIST ATTIC AT SCRAPPY CRAFT
1. Draw or transfer your design onto the carving block.
2. Optional: transferring an image-
a. For heat transfer - Copy your photo, copyright-free clip art, or text, with a
photocopier. Transfer your photocopied image to the Speedy-Carve TM block as
follows: Center your image face down on the carving block. Apply heat
with a warm iron for a few seconds.
b. For non-heat transfer - Trace your image with tracing paper. Place the tracing face
down on the carving block. Rub the image with the back of your fingernail or the back
of a spoon.
c. When you lift the paper, your image will be transferred from the paper to the block.
3. Carve around the outline of your image to create a shallow trough.
Continue carving away the areas that you don't want to print. Only
the raised areas of your image will print.

NUVO DROPS ARE HERE!
We have some new products in the store, called
NUVO CRYSTAL DROPS and NUVO GLITTER DROPS!
NUVO CRYSTAL DROPS
We've tried them, and we think they're pretty exciting. NUVO DROPS are dimensional drops, that dry hard. The Crystal Drops are glossy, and the Glitter Drops are glossy and glittery! Similar to Stickles, they do take longer to dry. Stickles can dry in a few hours or overnight. NUVO DROPS dry to the touch in an hour to a few hours, but they do take 24 hours to cure completely. Once cured, NUVO DROPS are very hard, similar to a brad. They don't squish like Stickles sometimes do.
While we still love Stickles, the NUVO DROPS open up new possibilities. They can be used in cards instead of brads, for a fraction of the cost. And they can be used in situations where you would rather avoid using metal, such as mailing greeting cards overseas.
Both the Crystal Drops and the Glitter Drops come in many luscious colors. Try them out, we think you will enjoy using this addition to your card-making and crafting repertoire.
